Lots of big American stars go off to Japan to make adverts they’d never appear in back in the US, safe in the knowledge that they’ll not be seen in their home country. In the film Lost In Translation, Bill Murray plays an American actor in Tokyo to make an advert for Suntory whisky. How much better would that film have been if it had been about James Brown making these adverts?*
*It would probably not have been very good, but you will now spend the next half hour of your life imagining James Brown forming a platonic relationship with Scarlett Johansson and coming to grips with the culture shock of Japan’s capital city. You may thank me later.
